Supporting and developing practitioners

My approach to supervision

Alongside my clinical work, I am passionate about supporting and developing other practitioners. I am currently undertaking a Postgraduate Certificate in Supervision at King’s College London and hold supervisory roles in both the third sector and private practice. My approach is warm and relational, aiming to support therapists not just with formulations and protocols, but with their professional identity and wellbeing.

Qualified CBT therapists

I believe supervision is most effective when it is a collaborative and compassionate partnership. I offer 1:1 supervision for qualified CBT therapists with a focus on:

  • Relational Dynamics: Exploring the "space between" therapist and client to deepen the therapeutic work.

  • Formulation & Protocols: Ensuring clinical work is grounded in robust evidence-based practice and clear formulations. Integrating complex comorbidities, long-standing core beliefs, and systemic factors that may be keeping a client stuck. I provide space to review tapes, discuss CTS-R competencies, and ensure your practice remains the most effective it can be.

  • Compassionate Reflection: Providing a safe environment to discuss challenges, blind spots, and professional growth. I provide a restorative space to process the emotional weight of your caseload, ensuring you remain resilient and compassionate in your work.

  • Navigating Ethical Dilemmas: A sounding board for those complex "grey area" cases where ethical, legal, and professional boundaries intersect.

Transitioning to private practice

Many qualified practitioners (including me - six years ago) reach a point where they consider moving from the NHS or third sector into private practice. This transition involves a significant shift in identity—from employee to business owner.

I offer specific mentorship to support this move, including:

  • Clinical Governance: Setting up robust systems for risk, contracting, and note-keeping outside of an organisational framework.

  • Business Identity: Helping you find your "niche" and market yourself authentically while maintaining professional integrity.

  • Managing Isolation: Transitioning from a busy team to solo work can be lonely; I provide the consistent professional connection needed to thrive in independent practice.

Trainee therapists and students

The training year for any CBT or Low-Intensity (PWP/CWP) practitioner is notoriously demanding. I'm experienced in offering supervision that provides the containment and practical guidance needed to navigate this pivotal time.

How I support students and trainees:

  • Navigating Academic & Clinical Balance: I provide a supportive space to manage the dual pressure of university assignments and a growing clinical caseload.

  • Developing Clinical Competency (CTS-R/KSA): I am experienced in helping students bridge the gap between theory and practice, focusing on building confidence in the core competencies required for accreditation.

  • A Safe Space for "Not Knowing": Training is a time of immense vulnerability. I offer a non-judgmental, compassionate environment where you can safely discuss mistakes, "stuck" points, and the anxieties that naturally arise when learning complex protocols.

  • Building Professional Identity: I enjoy helping students move beyond "following the manual" to finding their own authentic voice as a therapist, focusing on relational skills and person-centred formulation.

  • Portfolio & Case Management: Practical support in selecting appropriate training cases and ensuring your clinical work meets the necessary standards for your specific course and future BABCP/professional accreditation.

Organisational group supervision

I offer bespoke supervision packages for third-sector organisations, NHS providers, and private healthcare teams. My supervision practice is built on the belief that for us to meet the needs of our clients effectively, we must first ensure we are supported, contained, and inspired.

I am available to facilitate clinical group supervision and Action Learning Sets for teams. Action Learning Sets (ALS) are particularly powerful for teams in the therapeutic sector. Rather than a top-down "lecture," ALS empowers your staff to:

  • Share the Load: Move away from individual "stuckness" toward a culture of collective problem-solving.

  • Improve Practice: Use the group’s shared wisdom to find creative ways to support clients.

  • Foster Resilience: Reduce burnout by creating a structured, safe space to reflect on the "human side" of the work.

  • The Emotional Impact of the Work: Processing the vicarious trauma or emotional "weight" that comes from supporting vulnerable clients.

  • Relational Dynamics: Understanding the "hidden" communication between staff and clients to improve engagement and impact.
